Biodiversity with Ground Control

Understand Biodiversity Net Gain and meet mandatory requirements
Biodiversity, by definition, is internationally recognised and accepted as the diversity within species, between species, and between ecosystems.
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) became mandatory in 2024 by the Environment Act 2021.
With an ever-changing policy and legislative landscape for all industries relating to their impact on our planet, we are here to steer clients to manage their risks and capitalise on opportunities.
Ground Control is uniquely positioned to provide a seamless start-to-finish product for everything from investigating constraints to monitoring and managing the environmental outcome. We have been working with our clients on biodiversity improvement projects spanning the UK for many years.
Our landscape architects are experts at identifying opportunities to increase biodiversity, and our field teams are experienced at delivering these schemes.
We own habitat banks that offer developers off-site biodiversity net gain units to offset any BNG shortfall. These sites also showcase our approach to biodiversity, rewilding, woodland creation, and carbon sequestration, enabling our clients to see these initiatives and what biodiversity looks like.
In practice, biodiversity improvements can happen in many ways, from wildflower meadows to bug hotels to pollinator pathways and hedgehog highways. Recent and forthcoming projects that we have delivered include:
- Assessing the biodiversity net gain we have delivered over a series of projects for a national infrastructure partner using DEFRA metrics
- Developing and managing biodiversity improvement initiatives across business parks, schools, and major infrastructure projects.
- Implementing woodland management plans, planting to increase biodiversity for national supermarket chains
- Rewilding a factory’s external space for staff to enjoy, increasing biodiversity, and connecting people with nature
Whatever your aims or ambitions for biodiversity, we would love to discuss your plans and provide guidance and support.
