Potholes damage vehicles, cause trips and hide under water in the dark. Ground Control repairs potholes and resurfaces car parks, service roads and walkways on managed commercial sites, from a single pothole to a whole car park.

We recommend the right repair, not the biggest, and plan the work around how your site operates, with traffic management and out-of-hours working to keep it open.

Why fix potholes early

Potholes rarely stay the same size. Rain gets in, heavy traffic breaks the edges away, and frost widens the damage, so a small repair soon becomes a bigger one. Fixing early keeps people and vehicles safe and costs less than waiting.

In winter it matters even more. Grit can’t treat a hole: salt collects in the bottom, and water freezes on top. Because Ground Control provides gritting and surface repairs through one team, the people looking after your site in winter can fix the surface too.

Temporary or permanent: which repair do I need?

Every pothole is different. We recommend a repair based on its size, how much traffic the area takes and your budget.

  • Temporary cold-lay repair: makes the area safe quickly. It needs no heating or long curing time and can take traffic as soon as it’s finished. The right choice when a hazard needs dealing with now, or before the budget for a permanent fix is in place.
  • Permanent hot-lay repair: lasts longer and suits busy areas that take heavy traffic. We carry it out when ground and weather conditions allow.

Patch repair or resurfacing: where several potholes sit close together, one patch repair often lasts longer and costs little more than filling each one. When defects keep coming back, we look at the wider area, including drainage, and recommend resurfacing where it is the better long-term answer.

Make it safe now, and fix it permanently when your budget allows. Not sure which you need? Send us a photo and we’ll recommend one.

How we repair potholes

Temporary cold-lay repair

  1. Prepare: We clear the affected area and soak it with water.
  2. Fill: We apply the cold-lay material evenly.
  3. Reopen: The area can be used straight away, and passing traffic compacts the repair further.

Permanent hot-lay repair (when ground and weather conditions allow)

  1. Mark out and cut back: We cut the damaged area back to a neat, square shape with firm edges, beyond the visible damage.
  2. Clean and prepare: We remove loose material, water and debris, and apply a bond coat so the new material grips the existing surface.
  3. Lay and compact: We lay hot asphalt and compact it in layers to sit level with the surface around it.
  4. Seal the joints: We seal the edges to keep water out, which helps stop the repair breaking up through freeze-thaw.
  5. Reopen: Once the repair has cooled, the area is ready for traffic.

What else we fix

From a quick safety fix to a redesigned surface:

  • Concrete repairs: concrete yards, slabs, kerbs, ramps and footways.
  • Resurfacing: patch repairs, planing and full resurfacing for larger areas.
  • Line marking: bays, walkways and traffic routes, including EV, disabled and parent and child bays.
  • Kerbing and bollards: repaired or replaced.
  • Drainage: repairs to drainage channels, gratings and manhole covers.
  • Condition surveys: we assess the whole car park, grade every defect as urgent, priority or preventative and give you a photographic report, so you know what needs fixing now and what can wait.
  • Planned maintenance: scheduled visits that repair defects before they become hazards.
  • Traffic management: safe site set-up and traffic control, so your site stays open while we work.

Need drains cleared too? Ground Control’s drainage team can arrange it alongside your repairs.

Why Ground Control

  • One team, start to finish: from a single pothole to resurfacing a whole car park, nationwide, through one Ground Control contact.

  • The right repair, at the right time: we tell you what needs doing now and what can wait, and offer a lower-cost option when budget is tight.
  • Planned properly: every job is planned by our support team, with RAMS and specifications issued before work starts. Work can be scheduled out of hours to keep your site trading.
  • A record of every job: before and after photos and job records for your own reporting. Winter clients also get tracked visits and audit trails.
