Ground Control has been shortlisted for the ‘Business Impact Award’ at the Unseen Business Awards 2024. Pioneered by Unseen, a charity committed to “working towards a world without modern slavery”, the awards recognise exceptional businesses and individuals tackling modern slavery.

Unseen is a UK charity who provide safehouses and support in the community for survivors of trafficking and modern slavery. Whilst working with individuals, communities, business, governments, other charities and statutory agencies to stamp out slavery for good.

With the winners of each award set to be announced at the Unseen Business Awards on the 19th September, the category highlights those who have an industry-leading approach in addressing and preventing modern slavery within their operations and supply chains.

The award submission focused on Ground Control’s strategic approach to tackling modern slavery, the actions taken through the company's Modern Slavery Working Group, and the aims to become an industry leader.

The Unseen Business Awards have also shortlisted Clare Grant, Head of People Partnering, as ‘Unseen Star of the Year’ for a “proactive approach, engaging with senior leadership to enhance the company’s processes across all areas of the business”.

On the announcement of the Unseen Business Awards shortlists, Jason Knights, Managing Director added:

We are honoured to be shortlisted for ‘Business Impact’ and ‘Unseen Star of the Year’ at the Unseen Business Awards,  which recognises businesses and individuals leading the way in preventing and addressing modern slavery in their operations and supply chains. As a B-Corp certified company, Ground Control is dedicated to this mission through a thoughtful and accountable approach, led by our Modern Slavery Working Group.
The complexities and hidden nature of modern slavery present significant challenges for businesses in our sector, making it even more critical for companies to take decisive action. Over the past year, we’ve made significant progress by implementing comprehensive training, expanding awareness of the risks of modern slavery, and introducing technology to enhance our risk assessment process and reporting mechanisms.
By collaborating with key suppliers and industry partners, we continue to promote ethical practices throughout our supply chain. This recognition highlights our ongoing commitment to driving positive change in tackling the risks of modern slavery, and we urge all businesses to join us in prioritising this vital cause.

In a recent blog, Darren Daley, Grounds Maintenance & Client Services Director, gave a short reflection on our changes to tackle Modern Slavery, which is available to read here.
