Liebherr R920 joins the Ground Control RRV rail to road vegetation management fleet
Ground Control is pleased to introduce the latest innovation in on-track plant (OTP) operations to its expanding portfolio of state-of-the-art road-to-rail vehicles (RRV).
On 31st July 2024, our infrastructure teams took delivery of the new Liebherr R920 Tracked Excavator at the Lincolnshire yard, where it will join an impressive fleet of vegetation management machinery for deployment along the road and rail networks across the UK and Ireland.
Standout features of the new Liebherr R920 Tracked Excavator include:
- 31.6-tonne operating weight
- Compact dimensions provide fast excavating cycle times with larger capacity and allow a short tail swing radius for use in confined spaces
- 360-degree rotation and 80-tonne towing capacity for the perfect mix of enhanced lifting capability and versatility on-site
- GDK Capacity Planner for automated configuration of maximum lifting height
- Break out force and higher bucket capacity for the most efficient cycle times
- Equipped with a Rhino Horn with an underslung Crowd Ram for using attachments of up to 1.8 tonnes that can reach up to 9m.
- S60 Steel wrist (Tilt Rotator) directly fitted to the main dipper for superior manipulation
- Fully space guard complaint for use on and off track for ALO works that may be needed.
The Liebherr R920 joins a fleet of specialist excavators for intricate, complex, and sensitive vegetation management solutions across the nation's rail and road network. Working with Network Rail and Tier 1 clients, under our Plant Operators Scheme (POS) and Principal Contractor Licences, Ground Control provides end-to-end management solutions for projects of any size and complexity.
The RRV fleet is perfectly suited for multiple applications, including track maintenance, vegetation control, earthworks, and more. Whether it's railroads or roadways, the business is adaptable and scalable to meet the unique needs of each project.
Austin Brown, Infrastructure Director at Ground Control said:
Thank you to Craig Cherry from Liebherr for the safe arrival of our shiny new excavator. The Liebherr 920 looks right at home in our Lincolnshire Yard, amongst our established fleet of state-of-the-art plant.
It marks another milestone in our commitment to innovation, alongside delivering the most efficient, safe, precise, and sustainable service to customers.
We have also invested in our on-track-plant operations team recently, who are raring to go with the new excavator.
As a regular contractor to Network Rail, National Highways, and other key players in the transport infrastructure sector, I am confident that there is no challenge that our new machinery and competent teams can't tackle.
