Steve joined Ground Control in 2013 and leads the Utility Arboriculture, Inland Waterways & Ireland division. An experienced Divisional Director, he brings deep expertise in business transformation, operational excellence, commercial management, and strategic growth, with a proven track record of turning around underperforming operations and building high-performing teams.

With over two decades of leadership in safety-critical sectors, Steve oversees Ground Control’s vegetation management services for Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), shaping the division’s strategy and driving long-term success. His expertise spans leadership, change management, commercial strategy, business development, and risk mitigation, ensuring the division operates efficiently while remaining agile in a complex regulatory environment.

Steve has also played a key role in expanding the business into new markets, including the successful launch of operations in Ireland. Most recently, he was instrumental in the acquisition of River and Rural Ltd, a specialist in waterways and flood alleviation. This strategic move has supported the diversification of Ground Control’s service offering and strengthened the company’s capabilities in natural capital and climate resilience.

Known for fostering a strong people-first culture, Steve has consistently driven improvements in staff engagement, safety, and service delivery. Under his leadership, the division has grown significantly in both scale and reputation, earning the trust of major clients and becoming a leading player in the sector.

Steve holds an MBA and an MSc in Management and is passionate about innovation, people development, and sustainable growth. He plays a vital role in Ground Control’s ongoing success as part of the Executive Committee.
